London Calling
Three days in the world capital weren't nearly enough to see everything -- but we tried
We spent three full days in London trying to cram as many touristy things as we could into the time allotted. Despite all of our previous world travels, neither of us had ever been anywhere in England beyond the confines of Heathrow Airport.
The Viking Sky moored in the River Thames in the borough of Greenwich, known for its famous time-keeping Royal Observatory. Greenwich is also home to the Cutty Sark, a clipper ship built in 1869 that now houses a maritime museum.
We toured around the University of Greenwich. If you look closely at the two domes, you’ll see the one on the left shows the time and the one on the right shows the direction of the wind.
We had lunch with Kevin’s friend from high school, Mary Flynn née Mary Hall. Mary had been a foreign exchange student at North Olmsted High School and became good friends with Kevin’s friends, sisters and parents too. The two of them had fun catching up and figured that they hadn’t see one another in about … 36 years.
During the three days, we used at least five different methods of transportation in, around and between Greenwich and central London. Some of the sights were obligatory.
On our first day, London was commemorating the 80th anniversary of VE Day, so the city was richly decorated with flags and flowers.

We took a tour of the iconic Tower Bridge.
And sailed under the iconic London Bridge.
We went to see The Mousetrap, the Agatha Christie whodunit stage play that has been playing in London since 1952. The show was enjoyable and even a huge contingent of young kids remained rapt at the actors’ performances.

We saw a line of people waiting to take a photo with a novelty — a working telephone booth.
A few other miscellaneous photos.
What an amazing opportunity to be in London during the 80th celebration of VE Day! So much to see and do in London and you hit all the high points :) Such an amazing trip and this is just another one to add to this of "WOW!"
Oh, what fun! VE Day celebrations had to be very moving too, seeing how far London came back after being bombed to what must have seemed like the end of the world. No Tardis?
